Idaho Insurance Code §41-2502 requires that motor vehicle policies covering liability sold or renewed on and after 01/01/2009 include
uninsured motorist (UM) and underinsured motorist (UIM) bodily injury coverage; unless the coverage has been expressly rejected in
writing by the named insured. The named insured has the right to reject either or both UM or UIM coverage.
Uninsured Motorist (UM) coverage may pay damages for bodily injury to an insured person who is legally entitled to
collect damages from the owner or operator of a vehicle that has no insurance, or from a hit-and-run vehicle where the owner or
operator is unknown.
Underinsured Motorist (UIM) coverage may pay damages for bodily injury to an insured person who is legally entitled
to collect damages from the owner or operator of a vehicle with inadequate limits of liability insurance coverage.
Idaho Insurance Code only requires insurers to offer UM and UIM coverage for bodily injuries, not property damage. Ask your agent if
your company provides UM and/or UIM coverage for property damage. Typically the price for these coverages is minimal. For more
