Marsing woman sentenced for insurance fraud

BOISE, ID (January 25, 2024) – The Idaho Department of Insurance (DOI) announced today that Lanae Lynn Perez of Marsing, Idaho was sentenced in Ada County for insurance fraud. She previously plead guilty to one count of insurance fraud 41-293(1)(c) and one count of solicitation to commit insurance fraud, 41-293(1)(b).

On August 1, 2022, Perez was involved in a two-vehicle, non-injury crash in Meridian, Idaho. The other party involved made a claim to their insurance company with a date and time loss of August 1, 2022, at 10:35 am. Perez obtained an auto insurance policy after the accident at 11:59 am, then made a claim to her insurance company stating the accident occurred at 2:00 pm. Perez also solicited the other party to alter the time of the accident in order to have insurance coverage, but the other party refused .

Perez was sentenced to five years state prison, suspended, (two years fixed / three indeterminate), and was placed on five years of probation. Perez was ordered to serve 30 days in jail and was remanded to the custody of Ada County Sheriff upon sentencing.

It’s foolish actions like these that cost Idahoans their hard-earned money, causing insurance premiums to increase for everybody.”
