BOISE, ID (November 2, 2023) – The Idaho Department of Insurance and Senior Health Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA) are reminding consumers eligible for Medicare to review their plan options and costs during this year’s open enrollment. Idahoans can make changes to existing Prescription Drug or Medicare Advantage plans or enroll in new plans now through December 7, 2023.

“Medicare can be confusing, and your health circumstances can change. It’s important that Idaho seniors take the time during open enrollment to review if their plan is still the best fit for their medical needs,” said Director Dean Cameron. “I encourage consumers to work with a licensed local insurance agent to review plan options and contact SHIBA with their Medicare questions.”

SHIBA representatives at the Idaho Department of Insurance are available to talk with Medicare beneficiaries and provide free Medicare information, including reviewing Medicare coverage options. Call toll free (800) 247-4422 to speak with a SHIBA counselor. SHIBA also offers monthly Medicare workshops. To register for an upcoming Medicare workshop, please contact the SHIBA Helpline at 1-800-247-4422.

Medicare Open Enrollment also causes a spike in deceptive sales tactics via commercials, online, or even personal phone calls – which can further increase confusion among seniors. Idahoans can learn more about how to protect themselves during Medicare Open Enrollment by reviewing this flier or visiting https://doi.idaho.gov/shiba/medicare-improper-marketing/.
