DOI publishes preliminary health insurance rates for 2022

Friday July 30, 2021

BOISE, ID (July 30, 2021) The Idaho Department of Insurance (DOI) received preliminary health insurance premium rates from health insurance carriers for plans sold starting January 2022.

The DOI is reviewing health insurance premium rate submissions from health insurance carriers for next year’s individual and small group plans. These proposed health insurance premium rates are published on the DOI website at doi.idaho.gov/consumer/ratereview/. The average proposed change in premium by metal level, the corresponding 2022 rates by plan, and the carriers’ explanations for the changes, are made publicly available for comment. The DOI has the authority to determine the rates “unreasonable” if the requests are not adequately justified. Final rates will be publicly available October 1, 2021 at the same web address.

“While we’ve seen and experienced increasing costs in many sectors, the proposed 2022 health insurance premium rates are similar to or, in some cases, lower than their 2021 rates,” said Deputy Director Wes Trexler. “There is also a new carrier, Molina Healthcare, that has filed to offer individual market plans. We welcome inquiries and comments from the public.”
